Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has granted approval for the suspension of Oba Gbolagade Babalola (Gbadewolu I), the traditional ruler of Ido town in Ido Local Government Area.
The suspension was officially communicated on Friday through a letter dated February 2, 2024, signed by Olusegun Olayiwola, the state Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters.
Makinde’s decision to suspend Babalola was revealed on February 1, 2024.
Interestingly, the official statement refrained from disclosing specific details regarding the reasons behind the suspension or its duration.

In line with the directive, the monarch has been mandated to transfer all government property in his possession to the chairman of the local government.
The statement underscored that the suspension aligns with the powers vested in the Governor by Sub-section 1&2 of Section 26 of the Chiefs Law, Cap. 28 Vol I, Laws of Oyo State of Nigeria 2000, and other enabling powers.
In 2018, Oba Gbolagade Babalola found himself embroiled in a dispute with the deposed Baale Tajudeen Agura, who asserted his legitimacy as the Onido of Ido based on his Agura lineage.
In response, Babalola underscored that his great-grandfather’s appointment of the first Agura as Baale of Ido was rooted in their enduring friendship.
