The Kano State High Court issued an ex parte order on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, restraining Abdullahi Ganduje, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), from representing himself as a party member and presiding over the National Working Committee (NWC) affairs.

This order came following a motion filed by Dr. Ibrahim Sa’ad on behalf of two executive members of Ganduje’s ward in Dawakin-Tofa Local Government Area.

These members, Assistant Secretary Laminu Sani and Legal Adviser Haladu Gwanjo, were among nine ward executives who suspended Ganduje on Monday.

Justice Usman Na’abba granted the application and directed the APC, NWC, APC Kano State Working Committee, and Ganduje to maintain the status quo ante belum as of April 15, 2024, pending the substantive suit’s hearing on April 30, 2024.

The court also restrained the APC from recognizing Ganduje as a member and prohibited him from presiding over NWC affairs. Additionally, the State Working Committee was stopped from interfering with the ward executives’ decision.

The suspension of Ganduje, prompted by corruption allegations from the Kano State Government, stemmed from a petition by Ja’afaru Adamu, a party member from Ganduje’s polling unit.

Despite the ward chairman and secretary’s inaction on the petition filed on April 8, 2024, nine executives, led by the legal adviser, proceeded with the suspension, citing the need to investigate and uphold the party’s integrity, particularly in light of President Bola Tinubu’s anti-corruption stance.
