The Lagos State Government has decided to lift the ban on the activities of the Road Transport Employers’ Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) in the state.
This decision was announced by Mr. Sola Giwa, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, in a statement released on Monday.
Giwa stated that the suspension was lifted as part of the state government’s efforts to promote peace and enhance cooperation among union members within the transportation sector.
He mentioned that the decision was reached after thorough consideration and extensive consultations with relevant stakeholders, including members of the association, the Trade Union Congress, and the general public.

Furthermore, Giwa disclosed that the Lagos State Parks and Garages Administrators’ Committee, responsible for managing parks and garage facilities in the state, has been dissolved with immediate effect.
This move, he explained, aims to foster unity and peaceful coexistence while ensuring the smooth operation of transport services in Lagos.
The lifting of the ban is expected to foster a more collaborative relationship between the government and the transport union, ultimately leading to improved services for the public.
Giwa urged all parties involved to adhere strictly to the terms and conditions of the settlement reached for peaceful and sustainable operations in the transportation sector.
He also called for cooperation and joint efforts in building a better transportation system that benefits all residents of Lagos State.
It’s worth noting that the state government had suspended RTEAN’s activities in September 2022 and constituted a caretaker committee to oversee the affairs of the union.
