The Kano State Police Command has reiterated that the ban on public protests, processions, and unlawful gatherings remains in effect as the Federal High Court in Kano presides over the emirship tussle today.
This reminder was issued in a statement by the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna, The statement emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and avoiding any actions that could lead to violence, especially as the court addresses sensitive matters involving Emirs Sanusi II and Bayero.
“Members of the general public are called upon to remain patriotic and to shun any attempt by enemies of the peace from using them to cause violence as the lives of everyone are sacred and the priority of the Police to protect them including their property,” Haruna stated.

The police stressed their commitment to crime prevention and detection, warning that violators of the ban, including their sponsors, will be promptly identified and sanctioned according to the law.
Additionally, the statement highlighted that security personnel would be deployed adequately to enforce the ban and ensure law and order are maintained.
Residents were urged to cooperate with security personnel and provide actionable information to help preserve peace and aid in the detection, arrest, investigation, and prosecution of offenders.
“For the avoidance of doubt,” Haruna added, “all non-state actors, including vigilantes, hunters, and alike, are to clear from participating under the guise of providing security to any section of the community.”
The police command’s notice comes amid heightened tensions as the court deliberates on the contentious issue of the Kano emirship, involving notable figures such as Emir Sanusi II and the dethroned Ado Bayero.
