On Monday, a Kano State High Court, presided over by Justice Nasiru Saminu, granted bail to the controversial TikToker, Murja Kunya, in the amount of N500,000.

The bail conditions include two reliable sureties, one being a relative and the other an individual with landed property in Kano municipal.

Murja applied for bail in response to a directive from the Kano Shari’ah Court, which mandated a mental evaluation by a psychiatric doctor.

In his ruling, Justice Saminu emphasized the necessity of Murja’s release, noting the court’s upcoming Easter break and her prolonged custody since February 20.

Additionally, the court registry ordered verification of the sureties’ property.

The judge imposed a restriction on Murja’s use of her social media accounts until the case is resolved, warning that any violation would result in her re-arrest by the Kano Commissioner of Police.

Furthermore, the judge mandated the presence of the defendant’s counsel, the Attorney General, representatives from the Hisbah Board, and the Commissioner of Police at the next hearing to address amendments to the Kano State Hisbah Board Amended Law for proper adjudication.

The case has been adjourned until May 16, 2024, for further proceedings.

This development stemmed from Murja’s arrest by the Hisbah Board following concerns raised about her conduct and postings on Twitter, alleging immorality.
