The Kano State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has suspended ward party leaders who earlier suspended the National Chairman of the Party, Umar Abdullahi Ganduje.

This move comes after the APC Ganduje ward in Dawkin Tofa Local Government suspended the party’s National Chairman, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, on Monday.

In response, the APC Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area overturned the suspension and dismissed those behind it.

The Local Government Chairman, Inusa Dawanau, stated that those responsible for Ganduje’s suspension were engaged in anti-party activities, and evidence of their meetings with the opposition had been exposed.

The State Working Committee endorsed the suspension of the ward’s APC leaders who initiated Ganduje’s suspension.

They have sanctioned them for six months and set up a special investigations panel to verify the allegations against them.

The state APC chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Abbas, confirmed that they have adopted the decisions of the Local Government party leaders and are investigating the culprits’ anti-party activities.

He mentioned, “We have evidence of meetings between the State Government officials and those who suspended the National Chairman. The State Working Committee has sanctioned them for six months.”

The ward’s legal adviser, Halliru Gwanjo, had earlier stated that Ganduje was suspended due to allegations made against him by the Kano state Government.

In a related development, the Kano State High Court has scheduled April 17, 2024, for the arraignment of Abdullahi Ganduje, the immediate past governor of the state, his wife, son, and five others on allegations of bribery.

They will be arraigned on eight counts, including a $413,000 bribery allegation and misappropriation of funds amounting to N1.38 billion.

However, the Federal High Court in Kano has ruled that the Kano Public Compliant and Anti-Corruption Commission lacks the authority to investigate Ganduje over an alleged $5m bribery video.

Justice Abdullahi Liman stated that the offence falls under federal jurisdiction and can be prosecuted by the Attorney General of the Federation and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
