The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has declared that it will not process any Direct Entry admission without certificate verification for candidates who applied for the 2023 admissions.

This decision is in response to the suspension of accreditation of degree certificates from Benin Republic and Togo by the Federal Ministry of Education.

In a statement on its official handle, JAMB urged A-Level candidates to contact their former institutions promptly for certificate verification.

The Board emphasized that it will not consider admissions for the academic year for non-responsive institutions.

JAMB had written to all tertiary institutions that issued the certificates, noting that while some responded positively, others were lackadaisical in their response.

This move is part of efforts to address concerns raised by the Federal Government about the deployment of fraudulent means to obtain degrees from foreign institutions, particularly from Benin Republic and Togo.

The government expressed concerns that some Nigerians use such means to secure graduate job opportunities for which they are not qualified.

To expedite the verification process, JAMB provided links for candidates to access the list of non-responsive institutions.

The Board emphasized the importance of certificate verification in the admission process and warned that Direct Entry admissions without proper verification will not be processed.
