The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has issued a plea to the Federal Government for the release of its leader, Nnamdi Kanu, citing concerns over his deteriorating health condition while in detention.
In a statement released on Friday and signed by IPOB’s spokesman, Emma Powerful, the group raised alarm over Kanu’s declining health and accused the government and judiciary of planning his “systematic murder” through the judicial system.
According to Powerful, Kanu’s health has worsened during his time in detention, alleging that the Department of State Services (DSS) has been administering experimental drugs and practices to address his serious health issues.
The statement emphasized the lack of proper medical facilities within the DSS detention facilities to adequately care for Kanu’s deteriorating health, particularly his heart condition.

IPOB maintained that Kanu has committed no crime and called on Igbo politicians to use their influence to ensure the Federal Government does not allow him to suffer or die in custody.
Powerful stressed that Kanu’s life is significant and warned of potential consequences if he were to perish in detention or shortly after release, asserting that IPOB remains capable of taking decisive action if necessary.
The statement comes in the wake of calls from some members of the House of Representatives from the South-East region urging the discontinuation of Kanu’s trial.
IPOB reiterated its stance on Kanu’s innocence and appealed for international attention to his plight, urging stakeholders to intervene and ensure his release in good health, as declared by the Appeal Court Justices.
