Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, experienced its first rainfall of the year in the early hours of Thursday.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the heavy rain began at approximately 3:40 am and lasted for about 40 minutes, ceasing around 4:20 am.
The unexpected downpour, characterized by the absence of lightning, strong winds, and thunderstorms, was observed in areas such as Omi-Adio, Ido Local Government, Ibadan South West Local Government, and other parts of the metropolis.
Residents expressed joy over the rainfall, considering it a “shower of blessings” for the new year.

Paul Ademola, a resident of Omi Adio, highlighted that the rain brought relief from the evening heat and mild harmattan experienced in the mornings.
He also emphasized the need for urgent attention to be given to road construction, especially in Omi–Adio.
Nicholas Olabanji, a farmer, viewed the rain not only as a blessing but also as an early indication of the rainy season in the year.
Romoke Alao, a roadside trader, considered the rain a positive sign, suggesting that the new year would be favorable to everyone.
Notably, some parts of the Ibadan metropolis, such as Oke-Itunu and Mokola in Ibadan South West, did not experience any rainfall during this period.
