Human rights activist Akinola Adelabu-Soul has called for travel restrictions to be placed on Omowunmi, the wife of late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, also known as Mohbad, and their son, Liam.

In a letter titled “Urgent Request to Monitor and Prevent Departure of Mohbad’s Wife and Child,” addressed to 13 consulates in Nigeria on Tuesday, Adelabu-Soul expressed concerns over the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death and urged the embassies to prevent their departure from the country until ongoing investigations are completed.

The letter highlighted the shock and unanswered questions within the music industry following Mohbad’s untimely demise.

Adelabu-Soul emphasized the sensitivity of the situation and underscored the importance of Omowunmi’s presence in Nigeria during the investigation period.

Adelabu-Soul urged the embassies to exercise vigilance and ensure that Omowunmi and Liam do not leave Nigeria until the investigation is concluded.

He stressed the necessity of transparency and accountability, stating that their presence in the country is crucial for achieving justice.

Copied in the letter were the Nigeria Immigration Service and the Lagos State Police Command headquarters, with Adelabu-Soul requesting their cooperation in monitoring Omowunmi’s travel-related activities and ensuring that she remains in the country.

In response to the letter, Omowunmi’s lawyer, Taiwo Olawanle, stated that Adelabu-Soul lacked the authority to issue such a request and asserted that his client had no intentions of traveling abroad.

Olawanle emphasized that the authorities, including the police and the coroner, were actively investigating the matter, and Omowunmi remained committed to seeking the truth surrounding her husband’s death.

Mohbad passed away on September 12 at the age of 27, sparking controversies on social media.

The circumstances of his death led to the arrest of individuals, including Naira Marley and Balogun Eletu, and prompted the exhumation of Mohbad’s body for autopsy on September 21, 2023.
