The Gombe State Police Command confirmed on Thursday the apprehension of two suspects, Bashir Haruna and Mohammed Isah, for their involvement in criminal activities.

According to a press release by Deputy Public Relations Officer, ASP Sharif Sa’ad, the arrests were made in connection with a case of criminal conspiracy and food item adulteration.

Sa’ad explained that the suspects were apprehended after deliberately mixing approximately 57 bags of rice with chaff. Their deceitful act aimed to defraud unsuspecting members of the public.

Acting on credible intelligence, officers from the Akko Division intercepted and detained the suspects on February 24, 2024, at around 11:00 am.

During interrogation, the suspects confessed to their involvement in mixing bags of rice with chaff and subsequently selling them to consumers.

The suspects have been formally charged and brought before the court for legal proceedings.

In response to this alarming development, Gombe State Commissioner of Police, CP Hayatu Usman, urged the public to exercise caution when purchasing grains in sacks to avoid falling victim to similar fraudulent schemes.

Sa’ad emphasized the commitment of the police force to uphold the safety and security of the people of Gombe State.

He assured the public that the police would continue to work diligently to fulfill their constitutional duties, including protecting lives and property, maintaining law and order, and investigating and prosecuting offenders.
