William Troost-Ekong, captain of the Super Eagles, has made a generous donation by pledging his future camp allowances and match bonuses to support aspiring young footballers in Akwa Ibom.
The 30-year-old PAOK Thessaloniki centre-back, who originates from Akwa Ibom State, shared his altruistic gesture during an interview aired on Brila FM on Monday.
Troost-Ekong, with a Dutch mother and Nigerian father, maintains strong ties to his Ibibio heritage and views giving back to his community as a meaningful endeavor.

Renowned for his exceptional performances with the Eagles, Troost-Ekong’s recent act of philanthropy further solidifies his status as a cherished representative of Akwa Ibom.
His leadership during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, where he emerged as the team’s top scorer and tournament MVP despite Nigeria’s loss in the final, earned him recognition from Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno.
During a reception at the Government House in Uyo, Troost-Ekong presented an Eagles jersey to the Governor as a gesture of gratitude for the state’s unwavering support.
Born in The Netherlands, Troost-Ekong initially represented the Dutch at youth levels before opting to play for Nigeria.
Since making his senior debut for the Super Eagles in 2015, he has accumulated 71 caps and scored seven goals, showcasing his dedication to Nigerian football.
