Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has addressed the political crisis in the state, asserting that the decisions made by his administration were not motivated by fear but aimed at fostering peace.
Speaking at the maiden state banquet in Port Harcourt, Governor Fubara explained that the resignation of factional Speaker Edison Ehie was a move in the interest of maintaining peace in the region.
Governor Fubara, along with his predecessor Nyesom Wike, engaged in a truce meeting with President Bola Tinubu on December 18, resulting in an 8-point resolution.
The resolution, signed by key stakeholders including Fubara, Wike, and Speaker Martin Amaewhule, directed the withdrawal of all lawsuits related to the political crisis.

Among other mandates, it also required Fubara to re-present the 2024 appropriation bill to the full House of Assembly.
Addressing the people, Governor Fubara emphasized that his administration’s decisions were driven by a commitment to the welfare of the state and respect for elders.
He urged the public to embrace the peace process advocated by President Tinubu, assuring them that his government would avoid engaging in any political conflicts that could hinder development.
Highlighting the significance of the eight-point resolution, Governor Fubara stated, “We will not disappoint you. We also will not be involved in any dirty fighting because we know that we are going to be the losers.”
He emphasized the administration’s dedication to leaving a legacy of unity and development, rather than political apprehension.
In response, the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Tammy Danagogo, commended Governor Fubara for his focus on dispensing the dividends of democracy despite the political turbulence.
He urged Rivers people to be advocates of peace, truth, and justice for the state to continue on a trajectory of greatness.
