Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has stated that his recent victory at the Supreme Court marks the conclusion of legal challenges that had been a source of distraction for his administration over the last eight months.
Despite this, he emphasized his unwavering commitment to the purpose for which he was elected, vowing not to allow anything to divert attention from governance in the state.
On Thursday, the Supreme Court dismissed an appeal by the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Tonye Cole, who sought to overturn Fubara’s victory in the Rivers State governorship election.
In his appeal, Cole alleged irregularities and non-compliance with the Electoral Act, claiming that Fubara did not validly resign his previous position before the election.

Justice Ibrahim Saulawa, reading the lead judgment, dismissed Cole’s appeal, and the five-man panel unanimously held that the appellant failed to substantiate his allegations.
Reacting to the Supreme Court judgment in Port Harcourt, Fubara expressed satisfaction, stating that the victory revalidated their mandate and emphasized its importance in consolidating the purpose of governance.
He thanked God, President Bola Tinubu, and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for their roles in resolving internal crises and litigation against his election.
Fubara called on everyone, regardless of political affiliation, to collaborate in building a competitive and prosperous Rivers State.
He highlighted the dream of making the state highly competitive and urged unity for achieving progress.
While acknowledging recent distractions, Fubara assured that his administration would continue to provide essential services and address the needs of the citizens.
He expressed optimism that the resolved internal issues would pave the way for building the envisioned Rivers State.
