Chelsea forward Cole Palmer has emerged as one of the Premier League’s most promising young talents, alleviating pressure on Mauricio Pochettino and causing Pep Guardiola to rue missed opportunities.

Palmer, who joined Chelsea from Manchester City on transfer deadline day last September, has been enjoying a breakout season.

Having the freedom to roam from his nominal position on the right of Chelsea’s front three, Palmer has achieved an impressive feat unmatched by any other player in the Premier League this season, scoring and assisting in five different league games.

With 19 goals involvement this season, Palmer has become Chelsea’s leading scorer and most influential player, providing a glimmer of hope in an otherwise dismal season for manager Pochettino.

Despite their recent win against Newcastle, Chelsea still finds themselves in 11th place in the league, with slim hopes of European qualification. The pressure on Pochettino increased following their recent defeat against Liverpool in the League Cup final.

Fortunately for Pochettino, Palmer has expressed full support for the manager, citing ongoing improvement and a young team as reasons for optimism.

Another impressive display by Palmer in the upcoming FA Cup quarter-final against Leicester could bolster Pochettino’s chances of winning silverware and remind Guardiola of his decision to let Palmer go.

Guardiola’s decision to sell Palmer to Chelsea for £42 million could be seen as a misstep, especially considering City’s current position in the league and the injuries to key players like Kevin de Bruyne and Erling Haaland.

Palmer’s stellar form has also caught the attention of England manager Gareth Southgate, putting him in contention for a spot in the squad for Euro 2024. With Southgate personally watching Palmer in action against Newcastle, the forward expressed disbelief at the possibility of representing his country at the Euros.

If Palmer’s Euro dream materializes, it could be a source of comfort for Pochettino while leaving Guardiola with regrets about his decision to let go of the talented forward.
