Chief Austin Umahi, the younger brother of the former governor of Ebonyi State, Dave Umahi, has expressed his intention to contest the Ebonyi South Senatorial seat re-run scheduled for February 2024.
The seat became vacant after Dave Umahi vacated it to assume the position of Minister of Works.
Announcing his ambition on Monday, at a news briefing in Abakaliki, Chief Austin Umahi asserted that he is eminently qualified for the position and remains a top contender.
As the Director-General of the APC Governorship Campaign in the 2023 General Elections, he highlighted his experiences in both the business and political sectors, emphasizing that he would provide the people with the best representation.

Chief Austin Umahi emphasized the importance of a true democratic process in ensuring the emergence of an acceptable senator for the district.
He expressed confidence in the prevailing political arrangements and structures, devoid of sentiments, favoring his bid.
Zoning is a crucial factor, and he mentioned that the APC Ebonyi Zoning Committee had zoned the senatorial seat to Ohaozara Local Government Area, where he hails from.
He urged his supporters to pray for the success of both the primary and re-run elections, emphasizing that his candidacy is driven by a commitment to making a positive impact and changing the narrative for the people.
Chief Austin Umahi stated that the district should have the opportunity to elect a representative in a transparent manner, and he called on other aspirants to present themselves for the people to choose from.
