The Nigerian Army is set to receive its newly acquired fighter aircraft today, Thursday. Although the exact number of aircraft arriving is unspecified, this batch marks the first of its kind for the country.

In a notice issued from the Headquarters, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, will inaugurate the aircraft for operational use immediately upon their arrival.

The notice stated, “The Nigerian Army Aviation is set to take delivery of its first batch of aircraft today. The Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja will subsequently launch the aircraft into operations upon arrival in Nigeria.”

In September 2023, Lagbaja revealed that the Federal Government approved the purchase of 12 MD 530F Cayuse Attack Helicopters for the Army.

He emphasized that these aircraft would significantly enhance the Army’s operational capabilities in addressing the nation’s security challenges.

“The Federal Government of Nigeria, in support of the operationalization of Nigerian Army Aviation, has approved the acquisition of the initial 12 MD 530F Cayuse Attack Helicopters.

This will actualize the operationalization of the Nigerian Army Aviation to effectively tackle the security challenges bedeviling the country,” he stated.
