About 10 students from Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago Iwoye, are grappling with losses after a fire incident ravaged a private hostel at Funmidara Cokers Street, Ijebu-Igbo, in the Ijebu North Local Government Area of Ogun State.
The unfortunate incident, attributed to a power surge, occurred last Tuesday and resulted in the destruction of students’ valuables, including clothes, books, and credentials.
Governor Dapo Abiodun, represented by the Commissioner for Community Development and Cooperatives, Alhaji Ademola Balogun, visited the affected students to assess the extent of the damage.
During the visit, Governor Abiodun expressed his sympathy and assured the students that the government would provide relief materials to help mitigate their losses.

In a statement released on Sunday, the governor urged the students to remain calm and assured them that the government had contacted the university authorities to discuss replacing certificates and other vital documents lost in the fire.
The Chairman of Ijebu North Local Government, Hon. Bolaji Odusanya, commended the swift intervention and support from the state government.
He highlighted the prompt response of the state fire service, which played a crucial role in preventing more severe damage.
Odusanya emphasized the collaborative effort between the local government and the state government to address the needs of the affected students.
