The federal government has announced that Kaduna-based Islamic cleric, Ahmad Gumi, has been summoned for questioning regarding his remarks concerning the activities of bandits in the country.

Mohammed Idris, the Minister of Information and Orientation, made this declaration on Monday during a press briefing at the State House, Abuja.

Idris emphasized that Gumi is subject to the law and stated that the government has deemed it necessary to request his presence for interrogation.

He underscored the government’s commitment to obtaining any information necessary to address security challenges, asserting that security agencies are actively engaged in this endeavor.

The minister further noted that while individuals like Sheik Gumi are not exempt from the law, any constructive suggestions they offer will be considered by security agencies.

However, if they make statements deemed reckless, they will face appropriate disciplinary measures.

Ahmad Gumi has gained attention in recent years for his outspoken commentary on bandit activities and has been seen in the company of bandits on multiple occasions.

In a recent statement, he asserted that terrorism in Nigeria is funded not by Nigerians but by the terrorists themselves, who engage in kidnappings for ransom.
