The meeting between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), initially scheduled for today, has been postponed.
ASUU President Emmanuel Osodeke confirmed the postponement, which was announced by the Minister of Education last Friday.
No reason was provided for the delay, but the meeting is now expected to take place on Wednesday, August 28.

This meeting is crucial as ASUU recently threatened a nationwide strike following a national executive council meeting at the University of Ibadan on August 19, 2024.
The union’s demands include improved welfare for lecturers, better university funding, and a halt to the unchecked proliferation of universities across Nigeria.
The strike threat comes in response to the Federal Government’s failure to honor the renegotiated 2009 agreement with ASUU.
The potential strike could further disrupt the academic calendar, heightening tensions between the government and the union.
