The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially declared Monday and Tuesday, December 25 and 26, 2023, as public holidays to commemorate the Christmas celebration.
Additionally, Monday, January 1, 2024, has been declared a public holiday to mark the New Year’s Day celebration.
The announcement was made by the Hon. Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the Federal Government.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo extended warm felicitations to Christians and all Nigerians, both at home and in the Diaspora, on the occasion of Christmas and New Year.

He encouraged Christians to emulate the teachings of Jesus Christ, emphasizing values such as humility, service, compassion, and patience.
The minister underscored the significance of peace and security as crucial prerequisites for economic development and prosperity.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo assured that the Federal Government, led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, would continue to implement effective measures to ensure the security of lives and property.
As part of his address, the minister urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and report any suspicious persons or activities to the nearest security agencies.
He emphasized the need for discipline during the Yuletide season to safeguard lives and property in communities across the nation.
Looking ahead, Dr. Tunji-Ojo expressed optimism for the coming year, stating that 2024 holds the promise of a better future with the Renewed Hope agenda of President Tinubu.
He encouraged all citizens to remain focused and work collectively towards achieving national goals in the upcoming year.
