Mr. Fidelis Omhonria, the father of two-year-old Ivan Omhonria, who was tragically killed by a stray bullet from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), has expressed deep concern over the deteriorating condition of his second son’s eye, which was injured in the same incident.
The incident occurred in July 2023, resulting in Ivan’s death and causing a serious injury to his younger sibling, Eromonsele Omhonria.
Mr. Omhonria highlighted the struggles his family has faced in obtaining medical treatment for Eromonsele’s injured eye, citing delays in securing a US visa as the primary obstacle.
Despite assurances from the NDLEA and the Delta State government to cover the medical expenses and facilitate treatment in the US, significant delays have persisted, exacerbating Eromonsele’s condition.

He appealed to President Bola Tinubu, Governor Sheriff Oborevweri of Delta State, and the NDLEA to intervene urgently to expedite the visa process and ensure prompt medical treatment for his son.
Mr. Omhonria emphasized the distressing impact of the delay on Eromonsele’s health, describing how tears and blood often flow from his injured eye at night.
In response to the family’s plea, the NDLEA Chairman, Buba Marwa, and the Delta State government assured that they were actively working to expedite the visa process and arrange for Eromonsele’s travel to the United States for medical treatment.
They acknowledged the urgency of the situation and pledged to provide necessary support to alleviate the family’s suffering.
The heartbreaking ordeal faced by the Omhonria family underscores the critical need for swift and efficient action to address medical emergencies and ensure timely access to essential healthcare services.
