Mopelola Arowosafe, founder of the Lineage Of Grace Initiative For Family, has criticized the rising trend of pantless and braless fashion among female teenagers and youths, attributing it to the failure of parents and guardians in their responsibilities.

She emphasized that this style, which she describes as brainless and seductive, is a destructive import from the Western world that undermines African integrity.

A Saving Point Media correspondent walking through the streets of Abeokuta reports that 70 percent of teenage girls and youths find it comfortable to move around without pants and bras, exposing their body parts.

Arowosafe explained that this trend begins at home, as many parents have lost their parenting roles and fail to correct their children’s wrongdoings, especially when such children are financially supporting the family through their unconventional lifestyles.

She questioned how young women could feel comfortable traveling or going out without wearing underwear, calling it a modern form of prostitution that even the children of religious leaders adopt and cannot be corrected.

She also accused some parents of encouraging this seductive behavior in their daughters for economic survival, contrasting it with the past when parents would never allow their daughters to be seen around the house without proper clothing.

Arowosafe argued that many women fail to understand their value and pride before marriage, which leads to problems in marriages, as men often undervalue women who dress provocatively or have been promiscuous.

Arowosafe highlighted that women lose their self-esteem, value, and sense of identity due to this trend.

She explained that while men may seek sex to satisfy basic urges, women typically do so out of emotion and love, a sentiment lost among teenage girls today due to financial motives.

She referenced the Stone Age, where people were naked due to the lack of clothing, pointing out that reverting to pantless and braless fashion is a regressive step.

According to Arowosafe, such women will be perceived as sex objects and unsuitable for a serious relationship.

Arowosafe listed the benefits of wearing underwear, such as providing support and enhancing posture and confidence.

She noted that bras prevent sagging and reduce the weight of large breasts, which can otherwise cause posture issues.

She called on parents and guardians to fulfill their duties by guiding their daughters away from indecent public appearances, regardless of economic hardships.

Additionally, she urged parents not to view their daughters as economic assets, pushing them into modern prostitution, which would ultimately leave them with lasting regret.

Arowosafe called on the government to address Nigeria’s economic challenges, enabling parents to adequately care for and nurture their children’s future.

She also suggested sanctions for entertainment industries that promote indecent dressing, particularly in Nollywood films and secular music.

Arowosafe advised teenage girls and youths against going braless and pantless, warning that it lures men into fornication and leads to long-term negative consequences.

She encouraged men to maintain self-control and avoid exploiting such women.

Finally, she urged churches to stop promoting indecent dressing and instead teach their members biblical principles, regardless of the temptation to cater to the economic struggles of their congregation.
