The Lagos State Government has announced plans to clear over 100 shanties located at Adeniji Adele under bridge starting from Monday, May 6, 2024.
This decision was revealed by the State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, during a discussion with journalists on Sunday.
Wahab emphasized that the removal action follows the expiration of a 48-hour notice served to all occupants of the shanties, urging them to vacate the premises along with their belongings.

The operation will be carried out by operatives of the Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) and officials from the Monitoring Enforcement and Compliance department of the ministry, with adequate security support.
This initiative aligns with the state government’s commitment to reclaiming ungoverned spaces across Lagos, as stated by Wahab.
He cited the unsanitary conditions within the shanties, their use as havens for criminals, and centers for illicit drug activities as reasons for the removal.
Wahab urged the occupants to voluntarily relocate before the commencement of the enforcement operation on Monday for their own benefit.
Furthermore, the Commissioner highlighted a similar recent exercise conducted in Ikoyi, where structures, including a container used for illicit activities, were successfully cleared from beneath the Dolphin Estate Bridge.
In a related development, the Commissioner for Information, Gbenga Omotosho, disclosed that out of the 450 squatters apprehended under the bridge, 371 expressed a desire to be relocated to their respective states.
