Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State is set to launch a comprehensive intervention program called EKO CARES on Monday.
The initiative, aimed at mitigating the economic challenges faced by Lagosians, encompasses relief measures in transportation, education, health, and agriculture, in response to the removal of fuel subsidies and the increasing cost of living.
To steer the initiative, Governor Sanwo-Olu has established a non-partisan Special Dispensation Advisory Council consisting of prominent Nigerians.
The council, chaired by the governor himself, with Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, the Deputy Governor, serving as the alternate chairman, comprises rights activists, religious leaders, a youth representative, and members from opposition parties.

Earlier in February, Governor Sanwo-Olu had announced various palliative measures to alleviate economic hardships.
These included a 50% reduction in fares on all government transport platforms, which was later adjusted to a 25% reduction.
Additionally, initiatives such as the Ounje Eko Sunday market offering a 25% reduction in food prices, modified work schedules for civil servants, and a wage award of N35,000 for civil servants were implemented.
Furthermore, 15,000 women across all local government areas received N50,000 each to support their businesses, and expectant women were provided with free delivery services in government hospitals.
The launch of EKO CARES underscores the government’s commitment to providing meaningful relief to residents grappling with economic challenges.
