In a thrilling final match, the Egypt U-17 female volleyball team emerged victorious against hosts Nigeria, securing a 3-1 win in the 2023 Girls U-17 African Nations Volleyball Championship.
The highly anticipated match took place at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium (Package B) in Abuja.
The Egyptian team displayed their dominance throughout the championship, winning the first set 25-21.
However, the Nigerian girls fought back fiercely, claiming the second set with a score of 25-20.
Undeterred, Egypt regained control, winning the third set 25-22 and ultimately sealing their triumph with a 25-21 victory in the fourth set.

This championship marked the introduction of a new category by the Conference of African Volleyball into the continental competition.
Despite the defeat, the Nigerian team demonstrated commendable performance, finishing in second place.
Coach Sunday Akapson expressed pride in the young girls, emphasizing their hard-fought qualification for the World Cup next year.
Akapson highlighted the significance of the championship for Nigerian volleyball at the grassroots level, expressing determination to prepare the team for future encounters.
He assured that the Federation would provide the necessary support for the team’s preparation ahead of the World Cup.
Mirabel Onyegwu, the captain of the Nigerian team, received the Most Valuable Player Award, acknowledging her outstanding contributions.
Onyegwu emphasized the team’s commitment to working harder and aiming for victory in the next edition of the championship.
In the aftermath of the match, the coach of the Egyptian team, Islam Tayea, congratulated his players on their well-deserved victory.
The team had been in camp for six months, diligently preparing for the competition.
Tayea expressed satisfaction with their performance and revealed plans to return home to prepare for the upcoming world championship.
Egypt secured the first position in the championship, followed by Nigeria in second place and Cameroon in third.
The 2023 Girls U-17 African Nations Volleyball Championship, which commenced on Saturday, concluded on Thursday with Egypt celebrating their success on the international stage.
