The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is actively investigating 50 bank accounts and has recovered N30 billion related to alleged scandals in the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.
EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede revealed this information in an interview published in the EFCC Alert magazine.
He emphasized the need for special courts dedicated to handling corruption cases to expedite justice.

The recovered funds have been returned to the Federal Government’s coffers.
The investigation targets individuals including the suspended minister, Betta Edu, her predecessor Sadiya Umar-Farouq, and Halima Shehu, the National Coordinator of the National Social Investment Programme.
Edu was suspended following allegations of fraud involving the transfer of N585 million to a private account.
Umar-Farouq was questioned regarding N37.1 billion allegedly laundered during her tenure. Shehu was investigated for the movement of N44 billion from NSIPA accounts to suspicious private and corporate accounts.
Olukoyede highlighted the complexity of the investigation, explaining that it involves tracing funds across multiple bank accounts.
He urged patience from the public, emphasizing the thoroughness required in such cases.
Olukoyede also stressed the importance of collaboration from the judiciary and the National Assembly in the fight against corruption.
He advocated for the establishment of special courts dedicated to corruption cases to ensure timely adjudication and enhance the effectiveness of anti-corruption efforts.
Olukoyede emphasized that corruption undermines development and called on all Nigerians to play a role in combating it by speaking out against wrongdoing and holding public officials accountable.
