Stakeholders in education, including the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Bauchi State Chapter, Rev. Abraham Damina, have expressed concern over the escalating fees in schools, particularly tertiary institutions, across the country.
They emphasized the impact on the masses, urging urgent government intervention.
Rev. Abraham Damina voiced his sentiments during an interview at the “First Bauchi South Stakeholders Interactive Session,” organized by Senator Buba Umar representing Bauchi South Senatorial District.
He described the situation as “pathetic,” highlighting the burden placed on the common man who struggles to send their children to school amid economic challenges.
“The common man is really suffering untold hardship at the moment in Nigeria,” Rev. Damina stated, urging the government to address the issue promptly to alleviate the plight of the masses.

Yelwa emphasized the need for stakeholders, including Senator Buba Umar, to collaborate in finding solutions to assist those facing difficulties in paying their children’s school fees.
Former Bauchi State House of Assembly lawmaker, Aminu Tukur, called on the government to address the arbitrary increase of fees by tertiary institutions.

Maryam Bagel, the North-East Women Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party, added her voice to the discourse, urging the Federal Government to reevaluate the handling of the nation’s currency, especially the exchange rate of the dollar.
Bagel advocated for a reversal of the official dollar rate, emphasizing that it would positively impact the prices of goods in the market.
She also called for measures to prevent the hoarding of dollars by individuals.
In conclusion, the stakeholders collectively appealed to the government to prioritize education accessibility, address soaring school fees, and implement economic measures that would alleviate the financial burden on citizens, particularly in the realm of education.
