A 32-year-old man named Olúwaṣeun Shorinola has tragically taken his own life in the Kémta area of Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State.

The incident was confirmed by the Ogun State Police Command through its spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, on Thursday.

Reports suggest that Shorinola may have been driven to suicide by the ongoing economic hardship. The tragic event occurred around 10 p.m. on Wednesday.

According to the police spokesperson, Shorinola’s wife discovered his lifeless body hanging from a wall in their home. Odutola stated, “On August 28, 2024, Temitope Oguntade reported at the Kémta Police Division that she had received a call from Tajudeen Aremu informing her that her brother had been found dead by his wife.”

The family, however, insisted on taking Shorinola’s body away for burial, declining an autopsy at the mortuary. Odutola added, “We are monitoring the situation.”

This incident is part of a disturbing trend in Ogun State, where similar tragedies have been reported.

In April 2024, two other individuals died under similar circumstances: Opeyemi Lateef, who ingested insecticide, and 24-year-old Gift Bello, who took her life by jumping into a well.

Both incidents occurred just hours apart.
