The Coroner Inquest at the Ogba Magistrate Court has determined that the death of 12-year-old Dowen College student, Sylvester Junior Oromoni, was due to negligence from his parents and doctor.

The Magistrate, Mikhail Kadiri, concluded that Oromoni’s death resulted from inadequate treatment for his enlarged liver.

Oromoni passed away on November 30, 2021, with his death initially linked to bullying and an alleged poisoning incident at the school.

He reportedly named five senior students from Dowen College and mentioned an alleged poisonous substance forced upon him.

However, on January 5, 2022, the Lagos State Government cleared the five students and five employees of Dowen College from any involvement in Oromoni’s death.

Magistrate Kadiri emphasized that the deceased’s health deteriorated under the care of the doctor involved, identified as PW 3.

The doctor was criticized for neglecting Oromoni for over 32 hours and failing to provide proper care.

Kadiri stated, “The deceased’s death was avoidable, but for the negligence of the parents and PW 3, they didn’t take him to the hospital until the day he died on November 30, 2021. The deceased endured unnecessary pain due to this negligence.”
