A Kano-based High Court pronounced a death sentence by hanging on Chinese national, Frank Geng-Quangrong, 47, for stabbing his Nigerian girlfriend, Ummukulsum Sani, 22, to death.
Residing at Kano Railway quarters, Geng-Quangrong was convicted on one count charge of culpable homicide.
Justice Sanusi Ado-Ma’aji delivered the judgment, upholding that the prosecution had proven its case beyond any reasonable doubt and finding the defendant guilty due to inconsistencies in his testimony.
The prosecution counsel, Kano State Attorney-General, Haruna Dederi, stated that the convict committed the offence on September 16, 2022, at Janbulo Quarters, Kano.

He explained that Geng-Quangrong stabbed Sani with a knife in her house, resulting in her death upon arrival at Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital.
During the trial, the prosecution presented six witnesses and four exhibits to prove their case, while the defence counsel, Muhummad Dan’azumi, presented the defendant and one witness with five exhibits.
The accused claimed he stabbed Sani in self-defense after she allegedly grabbed his testicles. He pleaded for mercy, but the court sentenced him to death.
Victim’s mother, Hajiya Fatima Zubairu, expressed satisfaction with the verdict, hoping it would deter future acts of violence.
