Tragedy struck on Sunday night as suspected herdsmen invaded Nimbo community in Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State, leaving at least four people dead and several others injured.

According to residents who spoke with our correspondent, the assailants targeted mourners at Ugwuijoro Nimbo, resulting in the immediate death of four individuals. Although four bodies have been recovered, search efforts are ongoing as numerous people remain unaccounted for.

Chijoke Okunna, a resident, reported that seven individuals sustained severe injuries from machete cuts during the attack. Among the victims identified are Okeh Simon Ugwu, Oruku Okeh Chukwuebuka, Julius Ogbonna Odiegwu, and Gabriel Ugwor Ezea.

A police source, part of the Rapid Response Team dispatched to the community, revealed that the area had been deserted following the assault.

Enugu State Police has confirmed the incident, although details are yet to be provided. DSP Daniel Ndukwe, the command’s spokesperson, assured, “Please I am putting something together on the attack. You will get it soonest.”

The recent incident evokes memories of a similar tragedy in April 2016 when Fulani herdsmen attacked the Nimbo community, claiming the lives of at least 14 people.
