.Edo State Governor Plans Vocational Training for Repentant Yahoo Boys
Cybersecurity specialist Mr. Chidiebere Ihediwa has suggested that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) should consider re-orientating educated online fraudsters, commonly known as “Yahoo Boys,” by training them to become information technology specialists.
Ihediwa, a renowned software developer, proposed this strategy as an alternative to allowing these individuals to languish in detention or face destructive consequences.
During an award ceremony in his honor at the Police Officers Mess in GRA Ikeja, Lagos, Ihediwa highlighted the potential benefits of redirecting the knowledge and skills of Yahoo Boys toward positive ventures.

He emphasized that although many of these individuals may possess education, their knowledge is often misdirected and at odds with the positive knowledge needed for societal development.
Ihediwa argued that re-directing the expertise of Yahoo Boys toward meaningful ventures could be advantageous for the nation.
This perspective aligns with the idea of providing an alternative path for individuals involved in cyber fraud to contribute positively to society.
In a related development, Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has also disclosed plans to train repentant internet fraudsters, or “yahoo boys,” on advanced Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and other vocational skills.
The proposed training program is part of the initiatives planned for the state’s technology park.
