To address the growing insecurity in Ogun State, the Nigeria Customs Service has taken the lead in tightening the border lines connecting the state to the Republic of Benin.
This initiative aims to curb the smuggling of weapons, drugs, and other threats to the state’s security.
This was made known in a communiqué issued by the Command spokesperson, Chief Superintendent of Customs Hammed Bukoye Oloyede on Thursday.
According to him, Comptroller James Ojo, the Customs Area Controller (CAC) of Ogun I Area Command, embarked on a courtesy visit to all security agencies in the state.
He stated that the strategic visit aims to foster sustainable collaboration and synergy to enhance economic growth and maximize security along Ogun borders with the Republic of Benin through intelligence sharing and collaborative anti-smuggling operations.

Saving Point Media reported that last Tuesday, the Ogun State Police Command, through its Anti-Kidnapping unit, engaged in a gun battle with kidnappers.
Two kidnappers were killed, while others fled with gunshot injuries, leaving behind weapons, including AK-47 rifles.
It was noted that these weapons were primarily smuggled into the state by criminals through unapproved routes along the state border.
During the visit, Controller Ojo pledged to tighten border security, emphasizing the need for continuous and robust collaboration among security agencies to address the challenges posed by smuggling and other cross-border crimes.
By sharing intelligence, resources, and expertise, the Nigeria Customs Service and other security agencies can create a formidable front against those who seek to undermine Nigeria’s economic stability and national security.
Ojo stated that the courtesy visit aligns with the policy thrust of the Comptroller General of Customs, who has emphasized consolidation, collaboration, and innovation.
During his visit to the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, His Royal Majesty Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, and other revered traditional rulers in Ogun State, Ojo assured that the Nigeria Customs Service, in collaboration with traditional rulers and security agencies, will continue to implement intelligent and innovative strategies to safeguard Ogun State borders and promote economic growth.
Oloyede noted that the responses from all critical stakeholders visited were positive and impressive.
The CAC was assured of continuous support and collaboration with the Ogun I Area Command and was accorded a warm reception throughout his visit.
The sister security agencies visited included the Nigerian Police Force, 35 Artillery Brigade Nigerian Army, Federal Road Safety Corps, Defence Intelligence Agency, and Nigeria Correctional Service, among others.
