Covenant University has once again emerged as the top university in Nigeria, surpassing both the University of Ibadan and the Federal University of Technology, Akure, according to the 2024 rankings by Times Higher Education.

The institution, located in Ota, Ogun State, has secured its position among the top 1,000 universities globally, ranking at 801st. Notably, Covenant University initially gained recognition in 2018 when it was named the best university in Nigeria and the sixth-best overall.

Following Covenant University, the University of Ibadan claims the second spot in the country, with the Federal University of Technology, Akure, coming in third.

The ranking encompasses 1,904 universities across 108 countries and regions, with performance evaluated across teaching, research environment, research quality, industry, and international outlook.

Other notable Nigerian universities featured in the top rankings include the University of Ilorin, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Afe Babalola University, University of Benin, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Lagos State University, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Obafemi Awolowo University, and the University of Port Harcourt.

Among the top 15 universities, nine are situated in the South West, two in the South East, two in the South-South, one in the North West, and one in the North Central region.
