In a surprising turn of events at the Assemblies of God Church in Ehere, Ogbor Hill, Aba, Abia State, Reverend Eze Ogba made a controversial decision to cancel the wedding ceremony of Mr. Isreal Kennedy and Miss Rose after a pregnancy test mandated by the church confirmed the bride’s pregnancy.
The couple, along with their families, had gathered at the church for the ceremony, scheduled after the church service.
The revelation of the bride’s pregnancy led to the abrupt cancellation of the wedding, sparking confusion and distress among the attendees.
Despite pleas from the families to reconsider the decision, the church stood firm on its stance.
A church member, speaking on condition of anonymity, revealed that it is a long-standing tradition of the Assemblies of God Church not to conduct weddings for pregnant brides, regardless of their circumstances.
“It is the tradition of the Assemblies of God Church not to wed pregnant brides; it is not a new thing. The groom and bride knew that the church cannot join them in matrimony because the bride was already pregnant,” stated the church member.

In a bid to salvage the situation, the families reportedly sought an alternative church nearby to perform the wedding.
This alternative venue also hosted the subsequent reception ceremony.
The church’s decision has ignited debate, with some members expressing the opinion that the ceremony should have proceeded, allowing the church to address the issue and discipline the couple afterward.
Despite the financial investment made by the families in preparation for the event, the church adhered to its principles.
Following the controversial incident, both the groom and the bride were allegedly suspended in accordance with the constitution of the Assemblies of God Church.
Attempts to obtain a response from Reverend Eze Ogba were unsuccessful, as he was said to be in a meeting during the visit to the church.
