A tumultuous clash unfolded on Wednesday at Akute Bus Stop and Alagboole in the Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State, as commercial motorcyclists clashed with transport union tax collectors, commonly known as Agberos, over a sudden increase in ticket prices.

Reports from Saving Point Media highlighted the chaos, revealing that shops were forcefully closed, and property damage ensued, prompting residents and traders to seek refuge.

The violent clash, which erupted in the morning, instilled fear in the community, preventing several residents from venturing outdoors.

Those who had left the area were urged to remain in their current locations until calm was restored.

Saving Point Media interviewed a commuter named Garba, who affirmed that the motorcyclists were protesting a just cause.

Garba criticized the unreasonable ticket price hike, arguing that raising it from N700 to N1400, considering the high cost of fuel, was unjustifiable and unsustainable for the riders.

Although there were unconfirmed claims of a fatality, sources reported individuals wielding cutlasses and other dangerous objects during the unrest.

The Ogun State Police Command, represented by its Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, could not verify reports of casualties.

Odutola acknowledged property damage but deemed the protest of the aggrieved motorcyclists as illegal.

She advised them to channel their grievances through their respective unions to the police.

As of Wednesday evening, police vehicles remained stationed at crucial points in the area, with law enforcement making ongoing efforts to restore peace to the region.
