Christian Chukwu, former Super Eagles captain and football legend, expressed concerns about the state of Nigeria’s national football team, the Super Eagles.

Chukwu emphasized that the country currently does not have a national team and called for changes in the approach to coaching and developing players.

Speaking on a television program, Chukwu suggested that the team’s coach, Jose Peseiro, should reside in Nigeria to have better access to local talents and train them effectively.

He criticized the current practice of foreign-based players coming for short training sessions before matches and emphasized the need to discover and train talents within the country.

Chukwu stated, “Let’s come back home; all those playing overseas are good players. They have the opportunities. We have players back home who are equally good but they don’t have that opportunity to go abroad and play.”

“If you come here and discover them, be their manager, and expose them to European opportunities. We have players who are very good, better than the foreign-based players, but they don’t have the opportunity.”

The football legend stressed the importance of providing opportunities for home-based players and suggested a mix of foreign-based and local talents in the national team.

Chukwu, who also served as the Super Eagles’ coach, highlighted the need for collaboration and residence of the coach within the country for effective training and development.

Despite Nigeria’s qualification for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations, there have been concerns about the team’s recent poor form.

Jose Peseiro has been in the spotlight, with reports of dissatisfaction over outstanding allowances and comments about the size of the Eagles’ job.
