Thiago Silva, the seasoned defender, has confirmed his departure from Chelsea as the current season draws to a close, marking the end of an illustrious four-year tenure at Stamford Bridge.

In a statement released by the club on Monday, the Brazilian icon hinted at the possibility of returning in the future, stating, “Goodbyes are for those that leave and don’t come back. I intend on coming back one day.”

Since his arrival on a free transfer in August 2020, Thiago Silva has been a stalwart presence for the Blues, amassing 151 appearances and clinching prestigious honors including the Champions League, FIFA Club World Cup, and UEFA Super Cup.

Reflecting on his time at Chelsea, the 39-year-old expressed gratitude, saying, “Chelsea means a lot to me. I came here with the intention of only staying for a year and it ended up being four years. Not just for me but for my family, too.”

His connection to the club runs deep as his sons are currently part of Chelsea’s youth setup, a fact he acknowledged with pride, stating, “My sons play for Chelsea, so it’s a source of great pride to be a part of the Chelsea family – literally because my sons are here.”

Despite bidding farewell, Silva left the door open for a potential return in a different capacity, emphasizing, “That doesn’t mean that this is a definitive end. I hope to leave the door open so that in the near future I can return, albeit in another role here.”

Expressing affection for the club and its fans, Silva described the bond as “an indescribable love,” thanking supporters for their unwavering backing throughout his tenure, especially during the pandemic when stadiums were empty.
