Gunmen carried out another kidnapping in Imo State on Thursday night, targeting Rev Fr Kingsley Ichie of St Michael’s Catholic Church parish in Umuekebi community, Isiala Mbano Local Government Area.

The incident occurred at Orie Ama junction around 8 pm when the priest and a man identified as Uchenna Newman, who was driving the priest in a Volvo jeep, were abducted.

Sources reveal that the victims had alighted from the vehicle to make a purchase at the junction when the gunmen struck.

Businessmen at the junction were also robbed during the incident.

A parishioner, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed the unfortunate event and expressed concern, saying, “This is so unfortunate. We sincerely pray for the safe return of our parish priest and Mr Uchenna.”

This incident marks the third kidnapping within two weeks on the Anara Umuelemai Road.

As of the time of reporting, the police spokesperson in the state, Henry Okoye, had not issued a statement on the incident.

The community and parishioners are hoping for the swift and safe return of the abducted individuals.
