The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has decided to boost the prize money for the upcoming 2023 TotalEnergies African Cup of Nations (AFCON) by 40%.
CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepeon announced the increase, emphasizing the organization’s commitment to elevating prize funds for significant competitions.
The winner of the 2023 AFCON is set to receive $7 million, with the runner-up earning $4 million. Semi-finalists will each be awarded $2.5 million, while quarter-finalists will receive $1.3 million each.

The move is part of CAF’s strategy to foster the growth of football and bring benefits to diverse stakeholders in African football.
The 2023 AFCON is scheduled to take place in Ivory Coast from January 13 to February 11.
Nigeria’s national team, the Super Eagles, will compete in Group A alongside hosts Ivory Coast, Equatorial Guinea, and Guinea Bissau.
The increased prize money underscores CAF’s dedication to enhancing the allure and competitiveness of its premier tournament.
