The Tobby Emmanuel Foundation has urged the state government to prioritize the well-being of elderly citizens and establish conducive environments to enhance their quality of life.

Highlighting the contributions of these elders to the state, whether as civil servants or in various capacities, the foundation emphasized the prevalent issues of boredom, depression, and neglect experienced by retirees.

Tobi Emmanuel, the foundation’s visionary and president, underscored the importance of preserving the wisdom and experience of the elderly by actively engaging them in activities beneficial to the state.

Emmanuel emphasized that the accumulated wisdom of the elderly, gained through a lifetime of experiences, can be tapped into for problem-solving and decision-making.

By providing attentive care, supporting their health needs, and creating a nurturing environment, the younger generation can leverage the valuable insights of their elders to address present and future challenges facing the state.

Since June 2023, the foundation has been conducting monthly free medical care sessions for over 100 elderly residents of Ogun State.

At the latest event held in Asero, Obantoko, Abeokuta, over 118 elders received complimentary treatments for conditions such as high blood pressure and diabetes.

Additionally, initiatives like the “Feed a Needy Senior Project” (FANS) provide essential food packages to elderly individuals in need, ensuring their well-being during festive periods and beyond.

Looking ahead, the foundation aims to establish dedicated facilities akin to orphanages, where elderly individuals without adequate support can receive care and attention.

Emmanuel stressed that with concerted efforts from both the government and individuals, the sight of elderly citizens begging for alms or suffering from neglect would be alleviated.

In conclusion, Emmanuel emphasized that by recognizing and addressing the needs of the elderly, society can ensure their dignity and well-being, fostering a culture of respect and care for older generations.
