In a significant legislative move, President Bola Tinubu signed the National Anthem Bill 2024 into law on Wednesday. The bill aims to reinstate Nigeria’s old national anthem, “Nigeria, We Hail Thee,” replacing the current anthem, “Arise O Compatriots.”
This development was announced by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during a joint plenary session attended by President Tinubu.
The final assent to the bill marks a notable shift in Nigeria’s national identity and cultural heritage, reviving the anthem that was first adopted upon independence.
