During his appearance at the Federal High Court in Lagos State, controversial crossdresser Bobrisky, whose real name is Idris Okuneye, admitted to being male.

Justice Abimbola Awogboro sentenced him to six months imprisonment without the option of a fine for abusing the naira.

The judge questioned Bobrisky about his gender, to which he promptly replied, “I am a man.”

The judgment aimed to deter others from abusing and mutilating the naira.

The six-month jail term commenced on March 24, 2024, the day of Bobrisky’s arrest.

Initially convicted on April 5 after pleading guilty to the charge, the sentencing was postponed to April 9 due to a public holiday declared by the Federal Government for Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.

Bobrisky, in his plea for leniency, expressed his lack of awareness regarding the law against abusing the naira. He cited his role as a social media influencer with over five million followers and offered to use his platform to educate others on the matter.

However, the judge emphasized that ignorance of the law is not an excuse and stressed the need for accountability.
