The Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) has verified the escape of Nadeem Anjarwalla, a detained executive from Binance, on March 22, 2024.
ONSA confirmed the escape on Monday, revealing that Anjarwalla, under investigation regarding Binance’s activities, fled custody on Friday, March 22, 2024.
Zakari Mijinyawa, Head of Strategic Communication at ONSA, stated that initial investigations indicate Anjarwalla left Nigeria using a smuggled passport.
Efforts, including collaboration with international agencies like Interpol, are underway to arrest him.
Mijinyawa disclosed that individuals responsible for Anjarwalla’s custody have been apprehended, with an ongoing inquiry into the circumstances of his escape.

Anjarwalla, a British and Kenyan national serving as Binance’s Africa regional manager, was under a 14-day remand order by a Nigerian court before his escape.
He was due for another court appearance on April 4, 2024.
Mijinyawa urged the public, both in Nigeria and internationally, to provide any pertinent information aiding Anjarwalla’s arrest.
In related developments, Financial Times reported on February 28, 2024, that two Binance executives were arrested upon arrival in Nigeria due to a website ban.
Furthermore, on March 12, 2024, the EFCC requested Binance to share data on its top 100 Nigerian users and six months’ worth of transaction history, marking a focal point in negotiations between Binance and Nigeria.
