The Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) has stated that the ongoing power challenges experienced by its customers in Delta, Edo, Ekiti, and Ondo States are beyond its control.
The BEDC conveyed to its customers that the reduction in power supply hours is a result of limitations in allocation from the national grid, which is facing continuous challenges leading to a drop in power supply nationwide.
The Eko Electricity Distribution Company had previously attributed the power supply issues to gas shortages and other factors.
In a message shared on Thursday through its official handle, the Benin DisCo informed its customers about the reasons for the low power supply.
“We wish to inform you that the reduction in supply hours currently being experienced in our franchise states (Delta, Edo, Ekiti, and Ondo States) is due to constraints beyond our control, specifically limitations in allocation from the national grid.

The inconvenience is regretted, and we sincerely apologize for any disruption to your daily routines. Please be assured that we are working diligently with all stakeholders to improve the situation and resume regular supply as soon as possible,”
stated the DisCo.Additionally, the BEDC apologized for the delay in completing the maintenance of the Sapele Transmission Substation and Ihovbor Transmission Substation, attributing the delay to prevailing technical factors.
The company assured customers that work on both substations is progressing well, and they anticipate completing the maintenance process to restore full capacity soon.
Despite complaints from Nigerians about power outages since December 2023, the issues have persisted without significant improvement.
The power distribution companies continue to work on resolving technical constraints and collaborating with stakeholders to address the challenges faced by the national power grid.
