In a tragic incident on a federal highway in Niger State, bandits attacked a bus, killing the driver and abducting eight passengers.
The assailants, who reportedly made contact with the families of the captives, have demanded a N17 million ransom for their release.
The incident occurred last Saturday as the victims were en route to the coronation of the chairman of kingmakers and chief priest of Bakarabonde in Borgu Kingdom.
According to sources, after carrying out their operation, the bandits set the bus on fire.

The Chairman of Borgu Local Government Area, Sulaiman Yerima, confirmed the unfortunate incident.
He also verified that the kidnappers had established contact with the families of the captives, demanding a ransom of N17 million.
The Niger State Police Command’s spokesman, Wasiu Abiodun, acknowledged the incident but stated that he was awaiting a detailed report from the Borgu Division.
“I am still awaiting a detailed report of the incident. When I get it, I’ll contact you,” he said.
The incident underscores the persistent security challenges faced by travelers on federal highways in some regions, with criminal elements often carrying out attacks and abductions.
The authorities are expected to take swift action to address the situation and ensure the safe release of the abducted passengers.
