The Nigerian Army Council has approved the promotion of 47 Brigadier Generals to the rank of Major Generals and elevated 75 Colonels to Brigadier Generals.
This significant announcement follows the retirement of 113 generals on Wednesday.
Brig. Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, the Director of Army Public Relations, conveyed the news in a statement released on Friday.
The promotions were endorsed by the Army Council on Thursday, and the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, urged the newly promoted officers to redouble their efforts to justify their elevation and the confidence invested in them.

Among those promoted to the rank of Major General are notable figures such as Brig. Gen. WB Etuk, Commandant of the Nigerian Army College of Logistics and Management; Brig. Gen. JE Osifo, Commandant of the Nigerian Army School of Finance and Administration; and Brig. Gen. WM Dangana, Commander of Sector 3 Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI.
The list also includes officers like Brig. Gen. TB Ugiagbe (Acting Chief of Military Intelligence), Brig. Gen. ASM Wase (Deputy Director General Land Forces Stimulation Centre Nigeria Operations), Brig. Gen. MA Abdullahi (Commandant Depot Nigerian Army), and others holding key positions.
Similarly, officers elevated to the rank of Brigadier General from the rank of Colonel include Col Nwakonobi (Chief of Staff Headquarters 3 Brigade), Col MC Akin Ojo (Commander of 41 Engineer Brigade), Col BM Madaki (Deputy Director Army Headquarters Operations Monitoring Team), and numerous others.
These promotions highlight the continuous restructuring and recognition of merit within the Nigerian Army, aiming to enhance efficiency and leadership capabilities in addressing the country’s security challenges.
