The recent Bodija explosion in Ibadan, Oyo State, has left victims feeling abandoned by the state government, according to reports from Saving Point Media.

Despite the tragedy that claimed lives, damaged houses, and caused injuries, some affected residents are alleging neglect and inadequate support from the authorities.

Following the explosion on January 16, which resulted in casualties and property damage, the state government initially provided accommodation for affected individuals in hotels.

However, complaints have emerged regarding the treatment of victims in these temporary shelters.

Victims recounted experiences of eviction threats, reduced meal provisions, and withdrawal of basic amenities, such as electricity.

They expressed frustration over what they perceive as insufficient support and urged the government to intervene urgently.

In response to these allegations, the state Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, refuted claims of neglect, stating that the government has been actively supporting the victims.

He highlighted the substantial financial assistance provided for accommodation, feeding, and medical bills, emphasizing the ongoing commitment to the welfare of affected individuals.

Oyelade also clarified that arrangements were made to relocate victims when one of the hotels planned to fumigate its premises, ensuring their continued accommodation elsewhere.

Additionally, he addressed concerns about meal provisions, stating that complimentary breakfast is provided by many hotels, and the government ensures dinner for the victims.

Despite the government’s reassurances, victims and residents remain adamant about their demands for better treatment and support as they cope with the aftermath of the explosion.
