Former Osun State governor, Chief Bisi Akande, issued a cautionary message on Tuesday to all governors and political leaders, particularly within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), advising them to be vigilant against political opportunists who may later challenge and accuse them of corruption in a bid to seize leadership roles.
During his 85th birthday celebration and the unveiling of the Adebisi Akande Foundation and its Board of Trustees at the International Conference Centre in Ibadan, Akande, a former interim National Chairman of the APC, identified the emerging group of potential troublemakers as comprising crude oil thieves, yahoo boys, ritualists, armed robbers, kidnappers, land grabbers, bandits, cut corner agents, business manipulators, and religious leaders who exploit places of worship for personal gains.

Expressing concern about the prevalent discussions on corruption among current political leaders, Akande warned that a new breed of political opportunists, more corrupt, vicious, wealthier, and influential, is on the horizon.
He emphasized that these individuals, currently hidden within the ranks of the party, are striving to attain leadership positions and could pose a serious threat to the nation.
Akande urged present political leaders to exercise caution, stating, “These coming political vagabonds are going to fight with you. Today the vagabonds are hiding under your armpits, under your garments. The current political leaders in Nigeria should be careful of these new sets of vagabonds.”
Akande said “the vagabonds are the most corrupt, they are becoming more popular in the minds of the people. They have more money and are possibly richer than you. They will fight and possibly take over power if you are not careful but they don’t mean well for the nation.”
In his lecture titled “The Leadership Question: Prospects For Nigeria,” Vice President Kashim Shettima, represented by Borno State Governor Prof. Babagana Zulum, highlighted Nigeria’s potential for development with good leadership and mentorship.
Additionally, President Bola Tinubu, represented by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, praised Akande’s wisdom and perspectives, noting his invaluable contributions to the nation.
The event, attended by dignitaries including Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, Governors Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), Lucky Ayedatiwa (Ondo), Abiodun Oyebanji (Ekiti), Ademola Adeleke (representing Osun), as well as ministers, political associates, and friends, celebrated Chief Bisi Akande’s enduring influence and contributions to the country.
